The following resources are available to Northern Turners members:
Workshop Facilities The club is fortunate to have the facilities of the school technical workshop. As well as the school lathes, the club owns eleven midi lathes (many with electronic speed control), one larger lathe with speed control, a Pro-Edge sharpener and a bench grinder, and two dust collectors, as well as various small tools. The club also owns the audio visual equipment used for demonstrations. All club lathes are standardised with an M30 chuck thread so members can bring their own specialised chucks with an appropriate insert. Standard Operating Procedures have been prepared for these and other machines and club members are expected to regularly familiarise themselves with these procedures and only operate the machinery safely and strictly in accordance with these procedures. The club also owns display fixtures and materials and safety protection barriers for exhibitions and public off-site demonstrations
Demonstrations Demonstrations are usually planned three months ahead, in consultation with members, so that they are relevant and timely. The program is published as a calendar (accessible from website main menu) so that members can bring appropriate wood and tools. Often, an article in Turnout precedes the demonstration so that members can carry out other research and generally prepare for the lesson.

Library and Information Northern Turners have a library of about 100 books, folders, magazines and videocassettes or DVDs. They are housed in a roll-away cabinet and are managed by the librarian, Flora. Subjects include all aspects of wood turning and a number of titles on general woodwork. Members may borrow items for a nominal period. A library catalog may be viewed here: Books Magazines & Folders Videos Further information on a range of subjects may be obtained from the internet using our list of Useful Links Caution: These links are provided as a service to members and are not necessarily recommended. Northern Turners accept no liability for any damage resulting from the use of these links. Similar advice particularly applies to many offerings on Youtube, some of which suggest very unsafe practices. Be careful what you take from Youtube.
Club Newsletter The club newsletter is called Turnout. It is published monthly, normally about 10 times per year. Turnout provides Club news and articles of interest to woodturners. Turnout is available on line to all members and issues back to 2012 are also freely available from this website.
Insurance Northern Turners is insured for public risk and members are covered for accidents at club meetings and external club events. Note that cover does not extend to loss or damage of personal work or equipment at meetings or events and members should arrange their own cover for this if appropriate.
Consumables and Timber Sourcing A number of finishes and consumables are bulk purchased and available for members to purchase at meetings. Occasionally selected timber is available for purchase; sometimes members make timber available free or at a low cost, or can advise where it may be obtained. These opportunities are usually announced by email. Occasionally, trips are arranged to pick up fallen trees.
